'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes clash with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful shot from outside the box, and the defender quickly converted the deflection before charging toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result sealed an unbelievable recovery given the team had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win booked a fourth-round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way Orient approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the basics and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It requires a strong mentality and concentration just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a spell at lower division the Manchester club, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that maturation for club and country, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including home and away fixtures against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his knack for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This marks a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's only game for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they featured on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he recalls, grinning. "The days leading up, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved quite easy, because I got to the stage where I realized I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I felt I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a small coach driven by team personnel, the transport team, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, the Brazilian, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to socialize with the guys but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on public transport after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
