Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
